Cosmic Dashboard: Real-Time 3D Solar System & Orbital HUD at Your Fingertips
Origin: A Planetarium HUD in Your Pocket
Most astronomy apps either lean on cloud map layers or settle for static star charts. We set out to build a device-side, offline-capable 3D orbital HUD—so anyone can track solar-system bodies and near-Earth spacecraft with live, privacy-respecting computation.
Stack: Three.js Meets Astronomical Math
Cosmic Dashboard renders with Three.js and computes orbits through battle-tested astronomy libraries:
1. High-Precision Orbits via Astronomy Engine
Planetary and solar-system positions are derived from astronomical algorithms so the scene reflects real orbital state for the current moment—not just decorative animation.
2. Spacecraft Tracking with satellite.js
Propagate artificial satellites and space vehicles from orbital elements, then overlay their motion onto the 3D HUD to visualize passes and relative geometry.
3. Mobile-Tuned 3D Rendering
Scene complexity, lighting, and update cadence are tuned for phones so pan, zoom, and orbit interactions stay fluid without sacrificing the sci-fi HUD atmosphere.
Promise: Offline Math, Zero Telemetry, Dual Platforms
Aligned with Loopvity’s local-first philosophy:
- On-device orbital math: core celestial and satellite calculations run locally without telemetry callbacks.
- Offline-ready dashboard: essential HUD views remain usable without a network—ideal for field observation.
- Dual-platform release: iOS and Android ship with the same orbital experience and privacy posture.
